Summer Cleaning Guide
Here at BISSELL Rental, we love summertime. It’s full of sun and fun and plenty of outdoor activities. But all that fun in the outdoors can sometimes find its way indoors in the form of stains. We know you’re familiar: a fun afternoon running through the sprinkler means muddy footprints, a backyard BBQ with family and friends turns into ketchup on the carpet inside.
Luckily, cleaning up after common summer stains is easy and doesn’t take too long, so you can get back to enjoying summertime sooner. Read below for some of our best tips for tackling summer stains.
Mud may seem like a stain that is particularly tough to remove, but luckily, it’s not as bad as you would think. The key is to begin the cleanup process as soon as possible. First, if there are any solid pieces, do your best to remove them with a clean paper towel, being as gentle as possible and avoiding pushing the mud deeper into the carpet.
Next, use a carpet Pretreat cleaning formula to pre-treat the stain. For mud stains, a formula with Oxy works best, like our Oxy Deep® Pretreat & Spot Cleaner. If you think the stain is a tough one, or it has been sitting for a while, let the formula soak for 5-10 minutes and then gently work it into the stain using light strokes and no rubbing.
Then, use the Big Green Deep Cleaning Machine® as you normally would to deep clean your carpet and pay special attention to the area where the stain sits, going over it a few times if necessary. If any stain remains, treat it with Oxy again and let it set overnight.
Grass, Dust and Dirt Stains
Tackle grass, dust and dirt stains similar to how you would a mud stain, by pre-treating the area for 5-10 minutes using the Oxy Deep® Pretreat & Spot Cleaner followed by a quick pass of the deep cleaner. Dirt stains may not be as obvious as a mud or grass stain; however they are just as important because dirt can stick deep down in the fibers of your carpet. You don’t want to ruin post-outdoor or game stretching or relaxing on the floor by thinking about the dirt down in the fibers. If any stain remains, treat it with Oxy again and let it sit overnight.
We know that your BBQ chicken, ribs and other items will be so delicious and juicy that a stain is bound to happen. Luckily, we’re here to help! Be prepared for these stains in advance by stocking up on your favorite carpet cleaning formula. Our favorite for BBQ sauce and other BBQ stains like ketchup is the Oxy Deep® Pretreat and Spot Cleaner. It attacks tough colored stains permanently removing them from the fibers of your carpet. Work the solution into the stain with a cloth from the edges of the stain to the center. Don’t rub the stain, just use light strokes. When you reach the center of the stain, gently pinch in an upward motion.
